Privacy Policy

How PlateBeacon collects, uses, and protects your data.

Last updated: June 2025

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including your email address when you create an account. We also collect meal data you log — photos, food items, portion estimates, and nutrition information — as well as usage data such as app interactions and preferences.

2. How We Use Information

We use your information to provide the Service: recognizing food in photos, estimating nutrition, generating insights and summaries, and improving your experience. We may also use aggregated, non-identifiable data to improve our models and features.

3. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Supabase. Every table is protected by row-level security (RLS) policies that ensure you can only access your own data — never another user’s. Data is encrypted in transit, and access is scoped to authenticated sessions.

4. Meal Photos

Meal photos are stored in private storage buckets, not public ones. Access is granted only through time-limited signed URLs that expire automatically. Your photos are never visible to other users or the public.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Data Export & Deletion

You can export your meal history, nutrition data, and photos at any time. You can also delete your account or specific records. Visit our Data Request page to submit a request.

7. Third-Party Services

We use third-party services to operate PlateBeacon, including Supabase for database and storage, and AI providers for food recognition and nutrition estimation. These providers process data only as needed to deliver the Service and are bound by their own privacy obligations.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management, and optional analytics cookies to understand usage. See our Cookie Policy for details and controls.

9. Children’s Privacy

PlateBeacon is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to access, export, correct, and delete your data. You can exercise these rights from your account settings or by submitting a data request.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the Service or by email.
