AI Disclosure
How PlateBeacon uses artificial intelligence, and the safeguards that keep you in control.
How AI is used
Food recognition
When you upload a meal photo, AI models identify the food items present. Recognition is based on visual patterns and may not correctly identify every item, especially mixed dishes or uncommon foods.
Nutrition estimation
After foods are identified, AI estimates portion sizes and calculates calories, protein, carbs, fats, fiber, and other nutrients. These are approximations, not laboratory measurements.
Insights
AI analyzes your meal history to surface patterns and trends, such as nutrient gaps or consistent habits. Insights are observational and educational, not diagnostic.
Weekly summaries
AI generates weekly summaries of your eating patterns. Summaries are based on logged data and may not capture meals you did not record.
Ask PlateBeacon
Our conversational companion answers questions about your meals and nutrition trends. Responses are generated by AI and should be treated as general guidance, not professional advice.
Our commitments
AI output is always an estimate
Every AI-generated result — recognition, nutrition, insights, and summaries — is an approximation. We display confidence where available and encourage you to verify important values.
You can correct any result
You can edit or replace any food item, portion, or nutrition value that AI suggests. Your corrections are saved and help the Service improve over time.
No silent changes to confirmed records
Once you confirm a meal entry, AI will not modify it without your action. Updates to nutrition databases may change estimates for future entries but will not alter records you have already confirmed.
Provider information is logged
We log which AI provider and model processed each request for transparency and debugging. This metadata is visible in your account settings and is never used to re-identify your meals.
